Swans
Upon the lake, pure elegance in white,
Their forms reflect in morning’s dawning glow.
In swan’s demise, we apprehend our plight.
Grace personified in the cold sunlight,
Their ballet on water, a soft tableau.
Upon the lake, pure elegance in white.
Silhouetted ‘gainst the still of night,
A molten moon casts a ghostly show.
In swan’s demise, we apprehend our plight.
Their loveliness, arousing raw delight
Yet, even swans cannot forego the blow,
Upon the lake, pure elegance in white.
Beneath heaven’s gaze, a beauteous sight,
Yet even swans must yield to winter’s snow.
In swan’s demise, we apprehend our plight.
Their final song, in fading twilight,
Sings a sorrowful echo, weeping woe.
Upon the lake, pure elegance in white
In swan’s demise, we apprehend our plight.
