Diamonds in the Rough

id

Ruby McKenna, endearingly known as “Denim & Diamonds,” was a sight to behold. Her jeans were as worn as a cattlemen’s gloves completing a branding season, while her diamond-studded accessories would glitter under the Texan sun in such a way that would make even the most devoted city girl gasp. Her spirit was the shining sapphire amid the pebbles, an unbreakable gem hailing from a small town but with a heart as boundless as the Lone Star state itself. She was an intriguing contrast, a true testament to her life’s motto – embrace the elegance of diamonds, but never forget the strength of denim.

One sunny afternoon, Ruby, dust off her denim jacket, climbed onto her faithful stallion, Thunderbolt. The duo rode out into the endless fields of honey-colored wheat, seeking another day of adventure. A known lover of the outdoors, Ruby enjoyed these gallops about a countryside sprinkled with bluebonnets. Her blonde hair floated in the air like a halo, catching the sun’s rays just right, leaving a trail of gold behind.

Upon one such exploration, Thunderbolt’s hooves rattled anxiously against a patch of gravelly soil, echoing strangely as if hollow underneath. Intrigued, Ruby disembarked, patted Thunderbolt gently, and dropped to her knees, running her hand over the unusually hollow sounding ground. A few moments of digging through the soft, loamy soil revealed an old, rusted iron ring affixed to a thick wooden trap door.

With a startled, “Well, ain’t that a pickle!” she pulled the ring and heaved up the hefty door. Stale, ancient air issued from the black maw, piquing her curiosity. She retrieved a flashlight from Thunderbolt’s saddlebag, swung her diamond studded earring with a defiant glimmer and descended into the unknown.

Once her eyes acclimated to the darkness, she gasped. The modest beam of her flashlight danced over mounds and mounds of diamond jewelry of every conceive. She tiptoed through the cave, eyes wide as doubloons in awe of the hidden treasure. The whole spectacle was alluring enough to make even a disco ball seem lackluster.

A mischievous twinkle sparked in her eyes, resembling the playful glint of a rebel in the presence of unwarranted opulence. She pondered this sudden twist in her afternoon ride: a simple cowgirl discovering a treasure that would pique the interest of every fashionista in the metropolis.

What would happen next? Would our rugged cowgirl swathe herself in more diamonds than her nickname could handle? Use some to help her town’s charities in a grand anonymous donation? Or return to her country bar tonight leaving a slight trail of diamond dust behind her cowboy boots?

One thing was for sure, in a world that often forced you to choose between being as rough as your denims or shinning bright like a diamond, Ruby, with her quirky sense of style and a heart of gold, had struck the perfect balance. It seemed only right that destiny or circumstance – or perhaps a clever mix of both – had led her to this diamond mine. No matter what the next chapter held for her, this delightful, unanticipated discovery was destined to bolster the essence of her life motto, making Ruby McKenna not just a denim-clad hero but a true diamond in the rough.
