Kitty Tales always wished she had a feline friend of her own, but her mom was allergic, so she made do with writing about talking cats that went on all sorts of grand adventures. Tales found no joy greater than disappearing into these fanciful tales after a long day at school. However, today’s story was special. It was a mewsical mind-boggler; a mystery that spun a curious tale around a missing valuable violin!
The setting laid was the bustling city of New York, specifically the basement of the Metropolitan Opera House, where lived a talented orchestra of cats named ‘The Feline Fiddlers’. The feline sonata was well-known and Keyley, the tortoiseshell violinist, was something of a celebrity amongst them. Her violin was an envy object, a priceless Stradivarius, gifted by a kind janitor who had discovered these musically inclined cats.
One day, as the cats prepared for a rehearsal, everyone gasped with shock. Keyley’s violin was not in its case. The priceless Stradivarius was missing! They looked around to see if it had been misplaced; Tommy, the cello cat, checked under his chair, and Mel, the flute cat, peeked under the music stands. Yet, there was no violin to be found.
Keyley was in a state of panic. The performance was in a week, and without her violin, the cats stood no chance at impressing the human audience. Using their impeccable sense of smell and sharp vision, the cats commenced their search.
Suddenly, Whiskers, the conductor cat, suggested they start by retracing Keyley’s steps since the last practice. The cats gathered together, putting together a map of the entire opera house from the basement to the attic. It was Fiddle’s idea, the regular cat, who wasn’t musical but loved a good adventure, to split into groups and cover specific areas, just like detectives.
Meanwhile, Mel and Piper, the trumpet cat, decided to play some comfortable music to soothe Keyley’s nerves. Soft notes filled the empty rehearsal space, a sweet serenade. It was accompanied by the occasional murmur from Fiddle, who had started interviewing the opera house staff with Cleo, the tambourine cat.
By the moonlit nightfall, no one had managed to find the Stradivarius but the feline detectives had uncovered some intriguing clues. Like the muddy prints leading to the open window in the practice room. The adventure-loving cat, Fiddle, had his whiskers twitching with curiosity, a sure indication in Kitty’s story that something exciting was about to happen.
And as Kitty Tales looked up from her notebook, she could hear a soft purr from the cat sitting outside her window, a cat who looked suspiciously like Fiddle, as if saying – To catch a thief, you gotta think like a thief!
Thus, began a night of watching and waiting filled with feline suspense, mystery, and maybe, just maybe, a twist in the ‘tail’. No one knew what the night held but they were ready. A concert, a missing violin, and a group of determined cats – who knew what kind of adventure was about to take place?
Every story Kitty Tales wrote was a part of her, but she felt a particular connection to this one. As she packed up her notebook, she smiled, already imagining her readers, flipping through the pages, their curiosity piqued, wondering what happens next. And just like that, Kitty gave her readers another adventurous feline tale, another cherished story – ‘The Mewsical Mystery’. However, the mystery remained: Will the brave feline fiddlers solve the mewsical mystery in time for their grand concert? Only time could tell.
